2022 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2021 HIGHLIGHTS
2020 HIGHLIGHTS
2019 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2017-2018 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Athlete participation continued to increase through the various sports (swimming, basketball, track, softball, bowling, soccer (new in 2017)), social events (Snake Saturday and Gladfest parades), annual car wash fundraiser and annual Sports Banquet.
2016 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Athlete participation increased rapidly including unified partners and coaches for our five (5) sports, attracting participation throughout the NKC School District. Our teams competed in regional and state SOMO Games for Indoor and Outdoor sports. Eight athletes received their high school letter. 120 people attended our 4th Annual Sports Banquet to honor athletes, coaches and volunteers. To raise funds, parent volunteers worked at various NKCSD concession stands and we held our 4th annual Car Wash at Hy-Vee on Barry Rd bringing in $2,100. We increased community awareness with Northstars floats in the Snake Saturday and Gladfest parades, winning awards for our floats at both events. Our fall family picnic was our largest to date with 100 attendees. During the year, we sold lots of Northstars apparel that created community awareness and built Northstars pride.
2014-2015 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Swimming and bowling continued to attract new athletes of all ages. Three additional sports were added – softball, track and basketball – with a small number of athletes and a few committed coaches. Sports banquets were held each year to honor our athletes. We connected with North Kansas City School District and their indirect support for Special Olympics.
2013 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Northstars Booster Club was founded by a small group of parents who wanted their kids to have opportunities to participate in team sports. Swimming was our first sport team followed by bowling. Hosted a small annual awards banquet to acknowledge the accomplishments of our athletes.
- Supported 4 active sports teams - bowling, softball, bocce ball and track. Excellent coach leadership and unified partner participation. All sports combined, 100+ athletes participated. About 50% are under age 18 and 50% are over.
- Northstars participated in “Lucky to be in NKC” Snake Saturday in North Kansas City in March: 60+ Northstars participated, and we won 6th place for our creative award-winning float. Prize awarded for 6th place $1,000.00.

2021 HIGHLIGHTS
- Due to the continued impact of COVID there was no Swim season
- Track resumed in March with weekly practice and participation in the SOMO State Tournament
- Softball filled our summer months from July-September with weekly practice and participation in the SOMO State Tournament at the end of September. We were excited to have athletes for two teams.
- From September - early November we had almost 50 athletes who participated in bowling. With weekly practice at Main Event, friendships were renewed, new ones started and bowling scores improved. A number of our athletes qualified for the SOMO State Games in St. Charles MO.
- Mid-October we participated in the Spooky Snake Saturday Parade in North Kansas City. With a different format where judges visited stationary booths, we had an amazingly decorated booth with super friendly athletes handing out candy and smiles. We were so surprised and pleased to be the recipient of a very nice cash award in the Non-Profit Category.
- Right after Thanksgiving, basketball season resumed at Oak Park High School with weekly practice. As one of our largest sports pre-COVID, it was great to have so many athletes participating.
- Thanks to all the unified partners, coaches, parents and board members who helped maintain our community and bring fun and laughter to our lives during this difficult time!
